Can I afford to live in Paphos?

A common guide is to keep rent to about 30% of your take-home pay, the amount that reaches your bank after Social Insurance, GHS and income tax. Up to 40% is possible but leaves little for everything else. On €2,500 gross a month (12 salaries) you take home about €2,138, so a comfortable rent is up to about €641.

To rent a typical 1-bedroom flat in Paphos (about €700 a month) within the 30% guide you need about €2,800 gross a month; for a 2-bedroom (about €1,000), about €4,300. Many people share, or live just outside the city, to spend less.

Limassol is clearly the most expensive. Nicosia, Larnaca and Paphos are much closer to each other, and the Famagusta area (Ayia Napa, Protaras, Paralimni) is cheapest outside the summer season. The table on this page puts the districts side by side.
