Questions people ask

How is net salary worked out in Cyprus in 2026?

From your gross pay the employer withholds Social Insurance (8.8%, up to €68,904 of pay a year) and the GHS (GESY) health contribution (2.65%, up to €180,000). Those two are then deducted from your income before income tax, up to one fifth of it, and income tax is charged on what remains.

How much can I earn before paying income tax?

The first €22,000 of taxable income a year is tax-free from 2026. Then 20% up to €32,000, 25% up to €42,000, 30% up to €72,000 and 35% above that. Because Social Insurance and GHS are deducted first, someone on about €2,000 gross a month (12 salaries) pays no income tax at all.

Does a 13th salary change the result?

Yes: the same monthly salary paid 13 times is a higher yearly income, so more of it can fall into a taxed band. Choose 13 salaries in the calculator and it shows the net per payment and per year.

I am moving to Cyprus for my first job here. Do I pay less?

Possibly. People whose first employment in Cyprus starts after a period living abroad can have part of their salary exempt: 20% (up to €8,550 a year) after three years abroad, or 50% on a salary above €55,000 after fifteen years abroad. Pick the one that applies to you in the calculator. Confirm with your employer or an accountant before relying on it.

Why might my payslip be different?

Your employer may also deduct a provident fund, union dues or a medical scheme, and from 2026 you may claim deductions for children, rent or mortgage interest and some insurance in your tax return. Those are not in this calculator, which shows a standard employee with none of them. It is an estimate, not tax advice.
